Maria
VMier is an artist and publisher, based in Munich. Her work is
excessively heterogeneous, only recently she has re-centered to a
more painterly and sculptural practice.
For her projects she conducts extensive and intensive research and
writes on political, artistic and (anarcha-)feminist topics. But
above all a committed and critical thinking drives her artistic
self-positioning between history and present, politics and
formalism, autonomy and collaboration. The places where she is
located and the people with whom she is in exchange with play a
crucial role in her work — acknowledging artistic work as one that
can not be autonomous.
Maria VMier is active in various collaborative/curatorial projects.
Since 2013 she has been a publisher for artist books within Hammann
von Mier Verlag (together with Stefanie Hammann) and since
2017 she has been running the project space Ruine
München together with Jan Erbelding and Leo Heinik. Since 2019
she has also been part of the programming committee of FLORIDA
Lothringer 13, an artist-run space of the City of Munich.
